On this site no figure is written by hand. Every number you read sits in a register with four things: the value, the source, the day we read it, and its scope (gross or net, estimated or measured, municipality or province, the period). The page shows the source's initials beside the number; selecting them opens the rest. This page brings it all together.

The rules, in brief

  • The scope sits beside the number. A yield calculated from the quotations of the Revenue Agency's property market observatory (OMI) is gross and estimated, and we say so in the same sentence. Two different measures are not compared without saying so.
  • An old figure is declared. If a source has not yet published its update, the page gives the date of the figure it shows.
  • Laws carry a date. Every article of law cited carries the day on which we read it in its current text. Tax provisions that change on 1 January 2027 are marked: in January the guides move to a new version, and the old one remains readable, marked as superseded.
  • What we do not know, we write down. A statement we have not been able to verify against the primary source stays in the text with the caveat spelled out in words (“to be verified”, “not verified”, “secondary source”), and is never passed off as certain.
  • No names of private parties. Data sources, public bodies and public offices are named; private individuals and private companies are not.
